More helpful guidance
Someone has just passed away. What do I do first?

If the death was expected, contact their doctor or the healthcare team caring for them. If it was unexpected or you are unsure whether they have died, call 111. You can then take some time to talk with your family and consider the next steps.

Do I need to know what kind of funeral I want?

Not at all. You can start with a few questions or an idea of what matters to your family. A conversation can help you explore a traditional funeral, a smaller farewell, cremation, burial, or a memorial later on.

Can I plan ahead for myself or a family member?

Yes. Planning ahead can simply mean recording your wishes and talking them through with someone you trust. There is no need to make every decision at once.

Can our cultural and religious wishes be included?

Your beliefs, traditions and whānau wishes matter. Share what is important to you when making an enquiry, so those needs can be considered when discussing arrangements.

You don’t have to figure it all out alone.

Start with a conversation. We’ll take it from there, together.
